We opened "Lips Together Teeth Apart" on Friday, and it went fairly well!

Opening night we had 76 people and NO walkouts! Which suprised everyone.... Things went pretty well, all things considered... The cast did great and the energy left was really high--on and off stage.

Saturday night... something I WAS NOT prepared for happened... At the end of Act I one of the characters holds a tray with "bloody mary" glasses (painted red inside) and she tries to get out the french doors and drops them.... then the lights go out and I change the set... Well... things had gone fine... up until that night she dropped the glasses MANY times without them breaking... however Saturday night when she dropped them... even from backstage I could hear them BUST.... so I ran onstage to change set....---AND clean up glass... I did ALL my changes and saved the glass for last... I didn't have a broom...so I grabbed a rag and poured a bottle of water one of the actors had onstage over it... and sorta mopped up the tiny shards....

Today I have to go to work... then to the theatre....then back to work and then back to the theatre... it was a BUSY day...

Since I was up ALLL week AND weekend... I am giving myself tomarrow off to sleep in!

Soooooo, I am currently working on my 7th straight show at the Ice House and I am MORe than ready for a BREAK from theatre. I love it... but I am SOOO in need of a break. Since I will have cheerleading next year, I probably won't be able to work on any shows next season... though, since my cheer advisor knows TONS of the people I work with in the theatre, and is involved herself, I am hoping that she will see it in her heart and let me do a show. Unfortunately, there are 3 shows I would LOVE to work on next season.

"Saturday, Sunday Monday" April/May 2007
"....This sparkling contemporary comedy features a rich cast of feuding Neapolitans. During a traditional Sunday dinner, tempers flare amidst a gathering of family and friends. Add to their feud, generation conflicts, a lovers’ quarrel, humorousinsights on momism, bourgeois Italian life, and the meal is unforgettable. Of course, all is forgiven by Monday!..."

I would almost be guarenteed the part of Gillienella, the daughter. Somewhat because (1)the directors of this show are the ones I am working with on this current show, (2) Elicia loves me!, (3) The 'younger' generation is almost no where to be found at this theatre. It's a large cast and she has a very small part, so maybe, just maybe I could squeeze that in. (Plus, it's at the END of the year!!!)

However...the next show is RIGHT after this one... this is the part I'd kill for!

"The Gingerbread Lady" June 2007
"....When Evelyn Meara was a night club singer, she broke the house record in Pittsburgh...she fell off her seat seventeen times in one show! Now she is back home from rehab to start life again, supported by her equally precarious friends, a worthless ex-lover, and her devoted teenage daughter...."

In this show I would be trying out for the daughter, Polly. It's a role reversal show, Daughter is more the mom and mom acts like a child. I read, and LOVED the script! Now I only have to lose 90lbs to be the right size of the daughter...

And the final show that I would love to work on is...

"Misery" July/August 2007
"...Novelist Paul Sheldon crashes his car on a snowy Colorado Road. He is found by Annie Wilkes, the somewhat unstable ‘number one fan’ of Paul’s heroine, Misery Chastaine. Paul finds himself crippled, drugged, and at her mercy. Sheldon used to write for a living. Now, he’s writing to stay alive..."

Elicia is directing it... and I will most likely stage manage.... this show is gonna be a kick in the pants, it's a complicated show, with a zillion scene and set changes and to make this REALLY tough before we even near the show... we have 3 VERY willing and VERY capable of pulling off this role... The problem is... which one? Elicia and I both know all 3 ladies, they are all great actresses and would all be perfet for the role of "Annie"....

More current... the show I am working on... "Lips Together, Teeth Apart"
"...On the elegant deck of a beach house on Fire Island, a brother and sister, and their respective spouses attempt to celebrate the Fourth of July. With their biting humor, gnawing uncertainty, affluent habits and petty prejudices, they find little to celebrate about themselves or their country on its birthday. The only people they find more alien are the unseen gay men partying in the houses on either side of them..."

So, it's better than it sounds... "Sally" one of the characters has lost her brother to AIDS and is dealing with finding out he was gay...he left her the house on fire island and now she has to figure out what to do... Her husband, his sister and her huband are the others in the cast....

It's a great show... but it's mature/adult content..... I like the show... but I am all quite offended at some parts... though, the more I watch and listen, the more use to it I get... but I do not ever think that I will ever not be offended....

We open this coming Friday... We'll just have to wait and see what our audiences think!
